Florence E. Mackes of Scranton died Saturday November 18, 2017 at the Dunmore Healthcare Center following a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Norman Mackes Jr. who died on November 16, 2010.
Born in Scranton she was the daughter of the late Willard and Alice Bird Benjamin. Educated in Scranton schools, prior to retirement she was employed in the local printing industry.
Florence was a woman of strong faith and always went to church and was a member of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going to concerts at Nay Aug Park, going to the movies, and receiving hugs from anyone.
Florence’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her care giver Dot Lutz with Telespond, her friend Donna in the Dunmore Healthcare Center, and to the nurses and staff in the ICU Unit of Moses Taylor Hospital for all of their kind and compassionate care.
Surviving are daughters, Ellen Coleman and husband, Kevin, Rhode Island; Sandra Polkowski, Scranton; and Donna Barron and husband, Walter Scranton; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by twin children June & Robert, and son Carl; grandson Scott Barron.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton, with the Rev. Andrew Weidner, pastor of the Clarks Summit United Methodist Church officiating. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Friends and family may pay their respects Tuesday, 4 to 7 p.m.
