Obituary for Clyde F. Smith Sr.

Clyde F. Smith Sr., 78, Dalton, died at home on Dec. 27 after an illness. His beloved wife is Ardyce Johnson Smith.
Born in Madison Twp., on March 27, 1940, the son of the late Clesson John and Mary Jane Freeman Smith, he attended the former Moscow High School and served in the United States Army in Germany during Vietnam wartime. Clyde owned a family farm in Dalton before becoming a technician for Sire Power. In 1981, he opened the Clyde Smith Insurance Agency in Clarks Summit, where he enjoyed working until his passing.
Clyde enjoyed Yankees baseball and Penn State football but was truly an avid Lackawanna Trail football fan, attending games with best friends, Charlie and Mary Ellen Gibbs. He was a lifetime VFW and American Legion member and served his community as the longtime zoning officer for West Abington Twp. Clyde was a 40-year supporter and vendor at the Harford Fair. Every year, he looked forward to seeing family, friends and clients during “Fair Week.” More than anything, Clyde enjoyed spending time with, and being there for, his family. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather, affectionately known as “Papa Clyde.” He will be dearly missed by his family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sheela Prahalad for her exceptional care; Dr. Ferdinand Manahan; hospice nurse, Rebecca Rust, for her wonderful care and comfort; and aide, Kristen.
Also surviving are a daughter, Yvonne Smith (Patrick), West Abington Twp.; son, Skip Smith (Amy), Vermont; Kara Hinkley (Clayton), New Milford; Ryan Flatness (Terri), Exeter Twp.; sisters, Carol (Bob) Brecht, Nicholson; and Gail Smith, Port Crane, N.Y.; granddaughters, Amanda Smith, Vermont, Rylee Peck, Exeter Twp., and Kayla Hinkley, New Milford; many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was also preceded in death by infant twin brothers; and Lysah Flatness.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dalton Fire Company.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are under the care of the Miller Bean Funeral Home, 436 Cedar Ave., Scranton.
