Obituary

Todd Hartman, 53, of the East Mountain section of Scranton died peacefully at home on Friday, December 7, 2018 in the arms of his loving wife of 28 years, the former Colleen Meehan.
Born in Scranton, he is the son of Theresa Sullivan Hartman and the late James Hartman. Todd is a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1983. Prior to his illness he was a member of the Local Union #158 Heavy Highway Workers and was a manager for Pennsylvania American Water. He proudly served as President of the East Mountain Residents Association and ran the local children’s fishing derby at Mountain Lake for over two decades. He served as a school director for the Scranton School District for several terms and was instrumental in the construction of John G. Whittier School and Scranton High School. He was a Gold Member of the Waldorf German American Federation and a founding member of “The Garage.”
He was a loving husband, father, brother, son and uncle and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Also surviving are three children, daughter, Nicole Marie Hartman, a junior at the University Of Pittsburgh and son, Ryan Todd Hartman, a junior at Scranton Preparatory School and step son, Mark Gruszkiewicz whom Todd considered as one of his own, all of Scranton; Sister Colleen Sullivan Lynch and husband Tom, New Hampshire; brothers Kevin Sullivan and wife Barbara, Georgia, James Hartman and wife Colleen, New Jersey, Patrick Hartman and wife Anne, Scranton, Thomas Hartman and wife Desiree, Mayfield; sisters-in-law Mary Pat Cunningham and husband Al, Peckville, and Erin Soroka, Moosic; mother-in-law Joan Meehan, Scranton; canine companion Stella and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law William Meehan.
Todd was a man of deep integrity. His word was his bond. Todd took great pride in building a beautiful home for his family. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends around the pool in the summer and the fireplace in the winter. Todd was extremely proud of his children and their many accomplishments. His love and devotion to his wife was palpable and they looked forward to spending their golden years together.
Toddie, I will love and miss you forever. You were the most brave and strongest man I have ever known. It was my privilege to be your wife and take care of you. Sleep tight, my darling, until we meet again.
The funeral will be conducted on Saturday from the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave. with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave, Scranton. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends and family may pay their respects Friday from 5-8 pm. Colleen, it's been many years since our paths last crossed, I'm sorry to have this occasion to say hello. I was fortunate to reconnect with Todd though my work with Arc and his with EMRA- he was always so terrific to work with in EMRA meetings and meeting me on the spot whenever there was vandalism at Robinson or for any other need. We had each other's cell #'s and weren't afraid to use them! On a lighter note, I have a burning memory of flying four thousand miles an hour on the back of Todd's "Huffy" bike with him from the top of the mountain to river street when we were in about 5th grade ! I had great respect and will miss him. I'm sorry I probably won't be able to pay respects in person but my utmost respects are there. God bless you and you family. PQ

I'm sorry for the families loss and I'm glad to have grown up with you and your brothers. I'm grateful that you always watched out for me as a kid. I will surely miss you, I'm grateful that I was able to sing you 'happy birthday' with the rest of the Waldorf crew this summer! R.I.P!

God made us cousins but love made us friends. You were the greatest there was Todd. Our childhood was better because of you and your siblings and your parents. Colleen, Mark, Nicole, Ryan, Aunt Theresa and the whole Sullivan, Lynch and Hartman families....if all families lived like you, the world would be a perfect place. Thank you for showing us all the true meaning of family. We love you and will hold Todd in our hearts forever.
