Carl P. Walsh of Scranton died April 14 surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. He was preceded in death by Eileen Hunt Walsh, his beloved wife of 47 years.

Born in Scranton, son of the late William and Elvira Walsh, he was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Saint John Neumann Parish, Nativity of Our Lord Church.

A Herculean Christian Role Model that oozed humility and kindness setting a tremendous lifestyle example that extended beyond his family; I recall many Saturday nights in the Walsh home as Mr. and Mrs. Walsh prepared for 4 p.m. mass and all six kids were going in different directions, Patti at grad school, Karen sleeping (from night shift work), Eileen at college, Carl and Tom (and me) planning the night’s mischief and Mary Beth hanging out with her crew from Green Ridge, albeit her brothers disapproval. In quiet, I would carefully observe Mr. Walsh (a.k.a. Fats) and try to understand how he was able to keep this all together. The departing words were usually the same “be careful, Cutter.” Well, Mr. Walsh, I have been careful. I have six kids of my own just like you and on my most challenging days I think of your examples of (1) calmness; (2) moral virtue; (3) ability to laugh like no other and (4) ability to give a look that commanded respect from everyone for at least a mile radius. The marital example that you and Mrs. Walsh provided eclipse the ability of most today – thank you for setting the mark of Christian Role Model in all aspects of life
