Joan C. Swift, 89, of Scott Township, formerly of Scranton, passed away peacefully at home with her loving family at her side on Saturday, July 4. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Patrick S.and Florence Phillips Walsh. She is survived by John F. Swift, Sr. who was her husband and her five children, Patrick Swift and wife Sandra, Mary Ellen MacMillan and husband Robert, Nancy Swift (her caretaker), John F. Swift, Jr., James Swift, and her grandchildren, Erin and Kathryn MacMillan, Melinda Harhut, Patrick J. Swift and 5 great grandchildren, Gregory MacMillan, Aaron and Ryan Harhut, and Patrick and Jacob Swift. She was also preceded in death by her brother Edmund Phillips.

Joan was a graduate of Saint Mary of the Assumption High School in Scranton and worked at Bell
Telephone till she left to raise her family. Returning to work at Marywood College until retirement. Joan loved spending time with her family and watching them grow. She really enjoyed traveling, especially to Lancaster and Cape May. She also loved cheering for her favorite football teams, the Green Bay Packers and Penn State Nittany Lions over the years. Much comfort also came to her from her beloved furry friends, Belle and Snickers.
Her family would like to thank the many aides that came in and out of Joan's life over the past few years most recently, Jaqueline Dennis. Also, Chiyoko Cheplik, Michele Petroziello, Alyse Cremard and Gina Valente. All who had brought not only assistance, but brought care and excitement into Joan's world.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday from the Our Lady of the Snows Church, 301 S. State St., Clarks Summit. Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends and family may pay their respects Wednesday from 5-7 pm in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave. Scranton. Attendees for the services are kindly asked to adhere to the CDC social distancing guidelines and a mask will be required. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude's Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or donor’s favorite charity.
