Frank G. Gavern, 80, of Dunmore, died on October 22, 2020 at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife the former Catherine Judith Lee who died on February 27, 2020. They celebrated 58 years of marriage in February.
Born August 12, 1940, he was the son of the late Frank and Ida Pietrarelli Gavern. He was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1958-1960. After returning from the service he was employed at Chamberlain Corporation as a mechanic. He later opened and operated Gavern’s Garage in Scranton until his retirement.
Although he met his family’s needs through Gavern’s Garage, he was a man of many and varied talents including carpentry, masonry, plumbing and general contracting. Frank was a consummate problem solver. There was nothing that Frank could not fix. His talents were equaled by his work ethic, honesty and his generosity, his heart was pure gold. Frank’s true pride was his family and he passed these traits to his children. Even in retirement he continued to assist his children and grandchildren with many projects. He cherished his summers at Page Lake where he enjoyed working on the cottage, swimming, boating, playing pinochle and relaxing with his family and his dearest friend Jerry Davis. His laughter and bright smile will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend their deepest and sincerest gratitude to all of the nurses and staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
