Our cherished father, Everett Fitch III, 89, of the Green Ridge Section of Scranton passed away peacefully on Sunday December 6, 2020 at home to join his wife Elizabeth “Betty” McLaughlin Fitch who passed away on June 30, 2018 after 62 years of marriage.

Born in Scranton he was the son of the late Everett and Catherine Novajoski Fitch. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, he proudly served in the Korean War as a flight engineer in the United States Air Force. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and upon returning home from overseas he joined his father running “Fitch Motor Lines,” running coal trucks throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania and continuing his career with Seaboard Tank Lines in Dunmore. Even after retirement he joined his daughter and son-in-law at Elmwood Specialized Inc. He was always the best mechanic and you could not stop him from playing a great card game every Saturday. He also enjoyed playing in various bowling leagues in the area and was an avid puzzle enthusiast having completed thousands of puzzle through his lifetime.
He was a member of the Dunmore Presbyterian Church where he became an “Elder” within the church.
Everett’s family would like to thank Allied Hospice for their kind and compassionate manner that they portrayed, especially his nurse Dan Reilly and his wonderful aide Penny Hoffman.
Surviving are 7 children, Patricia Heil, Scranton, Elaine Stanton and husband Benjamin, Clarks Summit, Everett and wife Narine, Scranton, James and wife Christine, Dickson City, Marybeth Slimak and wife Jacqueline Leonard, Scott Twp., Diane Thackery and husband Ronald, Arizona, Brian and wife Marie, Clarks Green; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren whom he cherished dearly.
He was preceded in death by grandson Edward Slimak; brother Daniel “Bud” Fitch; sisters Elizabeth Snell, Shirley Kovach, and Katherine “Dolly” Kautz.
Friends and family may pay their respects Tuesday from 5-7 pm in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave. Scranton. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced and masks will be required. Kindly pay your respects quickly and without any physical contact. Interment in Fairview Memorial Park will be private for the family only. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Allied Hospice, 100 Executive Park, Clarks Summit, PA, 18441.
