Katherine Sabatini, lifelong Scranton resident, passed away peacefully at home on December 25, 2020 at the age of 85. Kay was born May 1935 to the late Frank and Catherine Elm Pallien and graduated from St. Mary of Assumption High School. She worked in the Scranton Dry Goods credit office before marrying her loving husband of 43 years Theodore “Ted” Sabatini who passed in May 2001. Ted & Kay were partners in consecutively owning and running two South Side taverns: the Merry-K and Sabatini’s and were active members of the Tavern Owner’s Association. Kay was also a long-time “lunch lady” at John F. Kennedy #7 elementary school. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi church prior to its closure and enjoyed attending South Scranton After 50 Club meetings. She was an avid reader, NY Yankee and Penn State fan as well as a crossword and sudoku puzzle master. Kay is best known for her love of family, hospitality to all, and being calming force to all lives she touched. She was a great mother, who was always there for us with love and support. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with family so the isolation forced by Covid-19 hit hard, but Kay honored her civic duty by continuing as a poll worker for the presidential election.
